Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement provided during booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To rent a vehicle from Melton Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type. A valid and full driving license, held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement, is required. Additionally, you must present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with payment details and a security deposit. Other specific conditions may apply as outlined in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be completed via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Melton office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are quoted in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, you are required to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage right away. A vehicle condition report will be completed and must be signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as at collection, aside from normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Please ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as when it was picked up; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra charges, so contact us as soon as possible if you anticipate being late. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Policies
- All car rentals come with basic third-party insurance. You will find complete coverage details and excess amounts in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial risk. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You are liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless you opt for extra coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited uses of rental vehicles
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials or sub-letting to others is prohibited. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is unacceptable. The vehicle should not be used for purposes it is not intended for or exceed passenger and weight limits. Driving outside designated geographical areas requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Melton is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the prior 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
Governing Law in Melton
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.
